Saffron Walden too strong for Colchester

After a quick 10 minute turn around after the earlier fixture vs Cambridge, the blacks were back in action against their hosts. A penalty for holding on directly from the kick off gave Saffron Walden the opportunity for an easy 3 points; this was duly converted and Walden had an early 3-0 advantage. Colchester unfortunately were unable to keep hold of any ball and after initially repelling the Walden attack, fast feet and quick hands released their winger to score on the left hand side of the pitch. The conversion was successful taking the score out to 10-0. Colchester struggled to maintain any real pressure during the next facets of play, a combination of strong defence and purposeful ball carrying from Walden led to Colchester falling foul to the referees whistle on a number of occasions. Walden gleefully took the 3 points when they were available and the score was pushed further out to 13-0 to the hosts.Colchester then enjoyed their best spell of the game, however the blacks were unable to capitalise on any of their field position. As the game drew to a close Walden again launched a counter attack down the right edge of the Colchester defence leading to a try being scored under the posts by the Walden fullback. The simple conversion was added as the games scoring was complete.
