Another convincing performance from the A's sees them go top!

The 'A'XV went into the third game of the season confident, despite 10 changes to the squad that beat Brightlingsea last weekend due to injury and availability.

Luckily the combined training of the 'A's and the Cavaliers allowed for well balanced squads for both teams.

The game started well with colchester having most the possession, moving the ball quickly and at high intensity. Continuous pressure on the right wing with Laren Roper being fed by David Calver stretched the Ipswich defence many times. The intent of this play saw the home side 15-0 up after 15 minutes with a variety of tries. David Lawrence darting over for a short range try, James west working around the fringes to get in and Will Allen working hard out on the left wing to drive through attempted tackles.

Following this quick start the game began to become scrappy with the visiting side being warned for foul play at the breakdowns. This slowed the play of the game until the last few minutes of the half.

The second half started much as the first did seeing Colchester establish dominance. Tries from Laren Roper out wide, Jack Buxton unselfishly popping the ball to James West just in front of the posts, Niclas Woodhouse getting through a gap in the defence and Sam Hopkins darting over. With 15 minutes to go the home side looked to replicate last weeks 41-0 win.

With 10 minutes to go, Ipswich were camped on the Colchester line and managed to drive over for a consolation try bringing the score to 41-7. Soon after, expansive play saw Patrick Gardiner out pace the broke defence to go under the posts for a final score.

Final score 48-7
Man of the match to Jack O'Brien for a solid defensive display, special mention to Will Allen who was a very close second.

After 3 games the 'A'XV have scored an impressive 22 tries and conceded just 2.
