It’s the shortest trip of the season for Colchester this weekend as they head to old rival Bury St Edmunds in search of a first win in National 2 East (kick-off 3pm).
With the club’s other three senior men’s teams all having the weekend off, it is the perfect opportunity for supporters to get behind the lads by making the dash over the Suffolk boundary.
Bury are in 10th spot in the league - three ahead of Colchester - with one win from their opening four matches, an impressive 61-33 home win over newly-promoted Oxford Harlequins. Their last outing saw them lose 47-27 at Dorking.
While it’s been several years since the first teams met in the league, there are plenty of links between the clubs, with several Colchester’s first team players having returned to the club after a spell at Bury, so expect a bit of on-field banter!
For head coach Craig Burrows, the priority will be on taking scoring opportunities and cutting out unforced errors.
“We’re looking forward to the Bury game after working hard on the training field. We’re staying positive and the win will come.”
October will be another huge month for the team with home matches against Henley Hawks and promotion-chasing Dorking, plus a first trip to Oxford Quins, who like Colchester were promoted from Regional 1 last season.
A reminder that entry to home matches costs £10 this season (£5 for members), and ideally tickets should be bought online. And if you want to come to one of our pre-match lunches, the cost of the ticket is included in the price.
