Colchester’s first season in the fourth tier of English rugby also saw a record-breaking sum raised for good causes.

Figures released by the club show that Colchester RFC collected in excess of £12,500 during the 2024-25 season, with local and national charities alike benefitting.

While the money was primarily collected at lunches held before first team match, there were also a number of other events held throughout the season.

Organisations that have received funds include the Alzheimer’s Society, Mid and North Essex Mind, the RFU Injured Players’ Foundation, Variety the Children’s Charity, Next Chapter and Young Enterprise.

Club treasurer Norman Gould is full of praise for the generosity of sponsors, members and supporters.

“We are extremely grateful to everybody that gives a donation when attending lunches for our 1st XV matches and other events where collections are made.

“It is important for Colchester Rugby to provide support in the community, and collecting money for charities is a major part of us doing this,” said Norman.

“It would be great for this generosity to be replicated or even better the record amount we have collected this year in the coming season.”
