A cracking game of outstanding Under 18 rugby produced the result that no-one likes - a draw ! - the Colts lose out on a 5th round draw to the away side.

COLCHESTER COLTS 5 points – TONBRIDGE JUDDIANS COLTS 5 points – NATIONAL CUP 4th ROUND

The Colts met TJs in the fourth round of the National Cup for the second year in succession.
Conditions - a sticky pitch, a howling gale and freezing temperatures – made the game more difficult; however both sides tried to play positive rugby, and the game was far better than the 5 all score-line suggests.
Playing with the wind in the first half, Colchester launched many attacks at the TJs line, but superb defence from TJs prevented a score, until the 15th minute of the half.
Scrum half, Matt Wadling, disrupting a TJs defensive scrum, stripped the ball from their scrum half, and after 2 attacks just short of the try line, Fawaz Olobooye dived over in the corner.
Colchester continued to attack, with skipper, No8, Dan Hexley and Second Row, Will Hudson to the fore, but again excellent TJ defence prevailed.
After 25 minutes, TJs broke out of their half, but excellent tackling on the left, particularly from Fawaz Olobooye, held the Colchester line, until a flowing three quarter movement led to an equaliser from TJs
Half Time – 5-5.
TJs had the benefit of the wind in the second half, and gutsy defence from the whole of the Colchester squad thwarted TJs relentless attacks – 2 outstanding tackles from fly half, Ed Parry were notable.
The stalemate continued throughout the second half – with waves of TJs attacks being met with a brick wall. Colchester looked dangerous on the break out, but superb defence from TJs left a highly entertaining game with a stalemate – in truth probably the correct result from 2 very talented sides, but in reality the result that nobody wanted.
Last year TJs won fairly comfortably, and the result this year shows the measure of improvement in the Colchester squad.
TJs progress to the 5th round courtesy of the away side ruling.
