Weekend 27th of November

We have three fixtures again this week, thanks to Ross Cowie once again. Please can I remind you once again your boys should bring their shirt and tie for after the game.

It has also become apparent that some boys think that it is the job of the coach to return the shirts to the bag and turn them inside out which it is not. Please can everyone take care of returning their shirt to the appropriate bag.

I would also like to point out that it is expected that after the game the boys will join their colleagues and the opposition for lunch. Recently some boys have disappeared straight after the game and the opposition have been left with food that has gone to waste. I understand that sometimes we will all have the need to dash off but this should be the exception not the rule and mixing with your fellow team mates and opposition after a game is what makes rubgy such a great sport.

 

At the bottom of the team sheets is a ‘Movember ‘article and picture which has been sent to the press. Thanks to Joe for getting behind this.

Nick ‘Movember Murray!’

Colchester Rugby Club U13′s entered into the spirit of Movember this Sunday by donning fake moustaches for training. Head coach Nick Murray (middle of the picture) has been growing a moustache since the 1st of November as part of the annual Movember campaign and the boys showed their support by sporting some very elaborate painted and stuck on moustaches, and by making donations to Nick’s fund raising bucket. Movember (http://uk.movember.com/) is a growing campaign, where men grow moustaches throughout November to raise awareness of male related illnesses such as testicular and prostrate cancer. Keep that moustache growing Nick, we look forward to seeing you clean shaven in December.

Match report 6/11/11

Colchester C v Bury B

Game of 2 halves .

 

Colchetster started very strongly and all the points were scored in the 1^st half . tries from Jack Nash after strong individual running , Henry Hughes after a series of ‘pick up and goes’ from rucks near the Bury line and one out wide , scored by Morgan Levison .

 

The 2^nd half Colchester were not able to convert their advantage to points but managed to keep a clean sheet for the 2^nd time running and final score being 17-0

 

Special thanks should go to Taylor Kersey ,James Bond and Jimmy Williams who played for Bury for us so we could all have a game .

Colchester Under 13 A 5 Cambridge 22

A much changed Colchester team entertained new opponents Cambridge. With a reputation as one of the strongest sides in the East, Colchester knew that they were in for a tough game and so it proved. Cambridge started brightly putting Colchester under pressure before scoring two early tries. During this time Colchester defended stoutly with George Holroyd and Craig Lane to the fore and went in to the break 12-0 down.
The second half started disastrously with an early try from Cambridge taking them further away before a break from Jamie Murray set up a position from which Jess Fearn fed Dan Shaikly who powered his way over in the corner. Further pressure from Cambridge led to another try giving the visitors victory by a final score of 22-5.

Match report for Colchester B v Bishops Stortford

 

Bishops Stortford scored an early try that was converted. Colchester replied straight away with a break from Stefan Georgiou and conversion by Jonny Spurling. James Deighton followed with a further try for Colchester under the posts which was again converted by Jonny. Bishops Stortford fought on and came back with a try but failed to convert, leaving the score 14-12 to Colchester at half time. After a messy start to the second half Bishops Stortford broke through to score in the corner. Colchester spent most of the second half in the opposition territory but despite all their efforts did not succeed in getting across the line, leaving the final score 17-14 to Bishops Stortford. Matt Hexley was man of the match for Colchester for his great tackling.

At Clacton Rugby Club (Vista Road Recreation Ground) U13 rugby match report 30 October 2011

 

Colchester U13 C team (71) v Clacton U13 (0)

 

A brisk crosswind blowing in off the sea on a bright but overcast Sunday morning favoured Colchester U13 C team as they scored 71 unanswered points against an understrength Clacton side.

 

The Colchester scrum resisted early pressure from the Clacton pack to set up opening tries for No6 Jordan Blackledge, and then with a Chris Ashton style flourish, No10 Laren Roper. Strong running from Colchester combined with poor tackling from Clacton, allowed Ronan Gallagher to score two tries under the posts; the second scored after a bold zig-zag run through the Clacton defence was also converted by Ronan. No4 Jack Nash and winger Lorenzo Perrilo then added a try apiece to make it 32 – 0 before the break.

 

The second half started at the same fast tempo, with captain Morgan Levison making an aggressive run through the Clacton back line to score under the posts. From the restart, Jordan Blackledge made a similarly bold run down the touchline to score in the corner, and then as an encore, scored his hat-trick in the same place.

 

Colchester’s heads were up and Clacton had no answer to their fluid running game, with Colchester’s forwards and three-quarter line combining to create the best try of the game, a well worked move across the pitch that sent Jordan Blackledge over in by the corner flag for his fourth.

 

Clacton rallied, but despite their best efforts there was now no stopping Colchester. Thomas Pike scored under the posts after cutting through the Clacton defence, before Ronan Gallagher claimed his hat-trick and Laren Roper scored his second try in the dying minutes of the game.

We now have two fixtures this weekend against Stanford le hope and Upper Clapton. Stanford le hope is an A team fixture and Upper Clapton is a B team fixture. Daniel Shakily is available to play for the A team but his parents are unavailable to take him. He lives in Great Bromley, if anyone could give him a lift then please contact his father on 07885875988 and let me or Nick know he will be coming.

Neil is happy to take a training session at home for the boys that have not been selected to play but we need to know how many will be able to make the session. Please email and let me know if you have not been selected and would like to train asap.
