Colchester 36-7 Old Brentwoods

The morning started very chilly down in Brentwood with Colchester looking to play a tight game on a flat but dewy pitch with the first half being just that.

After turning over the ball from the kickoff, Colchester found themselves defending their line in the first couple of minutes. With a solid defensive effort Colchester managed to repel the home team and work their way back up the field. It was a struggle in the ensuing few minutes and Colchester couldn't get out of their half but this, along with the initial resolve from holding Old Brentwood scoreless at the start set the tone for what would be a dominant period until halftime. After some good scummaging and straight running Colchester went into the break 12-7 ahead scoring two tries to one.

The word at halftime was to keep a hold of the ball and support the hard running locks, back row and outside centre who were leading the charge at every opportunity. And this message sank in as some lovely link play and support line created a further four tries for the away team. Direct running forwards and a fairly fluent back line opened up the Old Brentwood defense with the tries going to Openside James Pullen (2), Number Eight Elliot Adams (2) and Inside Centre Ollie Eves (2) all each collecting a brace. Ollie as Captain converted at 50% to end the match with 16 points, Colchester finishing comfortable winners thirty six points to seven.
