Stowmarket 5 Colchester U15s 25
Impressive performance by a mixed U15s team away at Stowmarket
On what can only be described as soft going Colchester started well from the get go, showing much improvement in the break downs Ollie Allen at scrum half was able to get the ball out much quicker than in previous games. The ball was moved wide allowing Luke Williams to make one of his trademark burst through runs only to be tackled just short of the try line. There was some excellent field kicking from Josh Clarke allowing us to play in Stow’s twenty two for most of the first half and the sustained pressure quickly paid off with Rory Bennet running in his first try. Soon after an intercepted pass by Greg Cooke resulted in a gifted try for him and the teams second. The forwards kept the pressure up with great scrumming, line outs and tackle rates. The third try of the first half resulted in yet another great break through from Williams who unselfishly passed to an in form Bennett who went over for his second try.
First half 0-15
Stowmarket showed great resolve in the second half and to their credit started much stronger but again the likes of Tom Stringer, James Ashworth, Max Roberston, Josh Downes and Manny Wright put in some great tackles and rucking turning the ball over on a number of occasions. The ball was again kept in hand and passed wide to George Fuller playing on the wing who went over for a great try. Stowmarket did not drop their heads though and came straight back at Colchester scoring a well-deserved try between the posts. Some sharp passing from the scrummage from Elliot Adams along with a fumbled pass from Stow allowed Thomas Newland to pick up and run who passed wide to Rory Bennett who went over for his hat trick giving his mum Emma a great mother’s day !!. The score line would have been much closer had it not been for the clutch of last man standing tackles put in by Williams who was narrowly piped to the man of the match by an inform Bennet. Coach Alex was very happy with the all-round performance. Stowmarket were great hosts, the refereeing was some of the best we have seen this season and the curry wasn’t bad either.
Second half 5-10
Final Score 5 – 25
