Colchester too strong for Stowmarket
Under 16s players impress coaching team
Colchester travelled to Stowmarket for this friendly under 17s fixture with a good mixture of under 16s and under 17s players. Facing spirited but ultimately limited opposition, Colchester's forward strength and more effective back line play proved far too much for the home side; the tone being set immediately from the Stowmarket kick-off with Colchester moving the ball well with scrum half Ewan Waters scoring without the home side touching the ball. Further scores from Jonah Varela, James Pegler, Finn Nuttall, Ollie Eves, a second from Waters, and a seventh try just on half time from Connell Corcoran giving Colchester a 41-0 interval lead. The scoring continued in the second half with two tries from Cameron Dix, two from Zac Keeley, two from Sam Wilkinson, and another from Eves bringing the final score to 84-0.
The ultimate scoreline is perhaps irrelevant; this was an ideal opportunity to integrate Colchester's under 16s players within the Colt's set-up, and those present performed impressively which bodes well for Colts rugby next season.
