Colchester Academy travelled to Ely in the second round of the Colts National Cup and emerged victorious after a hard fought game. A very closely contested first half was notable only for a single score by Colchester full back Adam Siddle; the away side struggling to demonstrate any real cohesiveness and being hampered by poor decision making. An early second half penalty from fly half Rhys Smith settled Colchester and, playing with more structure and fluidity, further tries followed from prop Tom Glacier and winger Craig Doran. Much credit must go the the Ely team who battled to the end and were rewarded with a converted score with the last plays of the game.
