The 4's enjoy a bonus point victory versus seasiders Felixstowe

**Match Report by Scott Chegg**

After a few players went into the A’s for this game a ‘new-look’ 4th team took to the pitch with many not playing with each other before. However any pre-match gremlins were squandered with Captain Mark Harman driving the ball just short of the line from the back of the scrum only for Wayne Charles to tumble over for the first points of the day. Felixstowe in reply caught the midfield napping and broke away with their only points in the first half.

What followed after was an onslaught from the 4’s.. A penalty just inside the Felixstowe half was taken quickly by scrum halve Matt Parker, the ‘Stowe’ defence was too slow to react and with the support from James Fisher Matt offloaded to Fish for the first of 3 tries in 10 minutes. The second again set up by Matt making a break from the back of the scrum only to bundle a metre short the supporting fly-halve Dave Hitchin receiving the pass to put him under the posts. Converted by Ben Connor again. After a few breaks from the centre combo Albert Smith & Luke Archbold who were unfortunate not to get over the line the 4’s found themselves at another scrum just outside the Stowe 22. Eagle-eyed Andrew Kettle spotted no one marking the blind side. After a solid scrum from the forwards consisting of Alan Goggins, Karl Hollinshead, Chris Daniels, Stephen McManamon & Andrew Dockney, Mark Harman picked and went down the blind side drawing not only the flanker and scrum half & No.8 but managed to get the offload to Matt, Andrew Kettle running in support drew the winger and Matt was free to run it in, a great try to watch that would beat most defences! Mark Harman was unlucky not to get a try for himself after darting over the line from the back of the ruck only for Wayne to be in the way and obstructing!

Half Time: 26-7

The fourths fell in the first 10 minutes to a lack of concentration and some heavy running from the Felixstowe forwards who crashed over the line. Not to be out-done the 4ths hit back in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick for centre sub Donald Crawford his first set up delightfully by Colt’s winger Adam Siddle with a chip over the top and the bounce falling kindly to Donald. His second: after picking a lovely line inside the Stowe 22 the pass from Chris Daniels was behind him, somehow Donald grasped the ball from behind his neck for a run in under the posts. The final of his 3 the easiest, after continued pressure in the Stowe 22 a wayward pass from their 10 found the hands of Don and an easy run in under the posts. Centre Albert went over finally after some quick hands out the back of the scrum and a great line that pierced the defence. In the final minutes of the game Felixstowe were camped on our try line but hits from Andrew Dockney, Steve McManamon & Austen King kept the opposition back. They resorted Felixstowe to try and audacious cross field kick only for Matt to snatch the ball up and kick it through for the pursuing Adam Siddle who went down under the posts.

Credit must go to Ben Connor who only missed one of his conversions and I think got a try for himself sorry if you didn’t there were a lot of tries!

Man of the Match went to Alan Goggins who being 69 years old almost played 80 minutes!
DOTD went to Andrew Kettle who was put through for a try but managed to drop the ball over the line…!
