Colchester Thirds traveled to Harwich for the top of the table clash in Eastern Counties Division 2. With both teams evenly matched in ability and total desire for victory a close game was always on the card.
On a heavy pitch with the wind and slope in their favour Harwich led 6-3 at half time, which they had shaded on possession and territory.
In the second half Colchester started strongly but Harwich's resolute defence saw them stop repel Colchester's early attacks. After gaining territory and with ball in hand Harwich attacked and scored the first try to lead 11-3.
A lesser side would have wilted against such a dogged and determined Harwich side. However Colchester kept on going with a determination to maintain their 100 per cent record. A penalty saw Colchester reduce the score to 11-6 then with 15 minutes to go Colchester scored a try and converted which put them in the lead 13-11.
Both sides worked endlessly in the last 15 minutes to get the next score and win but Colchester held on by sheer guts and determination.
Congratulations to both sides for playing such a great fiercely competitive game of rugby in such great spirit. Thank you to Harwich for being such great hosts and such good fun as the rugby banter amongst the supporters was fantastic and added to the day.
