Colchester Ravens came into Saturday’s fixture hoping to consolidate their position in the top 3 of the Zoo League Division 2 and keep an impressive run of wins going into the New Year.
The backline looked strong on the match programme but the conditions meant that it was the pack who have played so well all year needed to keep the momentum going and grind out the hard yards in the early part of the game. They duly delivered and dominated the scrummage and harassed Ealing at the lineout throughout the first half. David Higgins playing Fly half on his return from injury kept the Ravens on the front foot and all the hard work resulted in a 12 – 3 lead at half time.
The second half had Ealing playing with the elements in their favour but the hard work around the park in both halves by Kieran Payne , Adam Cook and Andy Goodbourn in the pack meant that the backs with some fine line breaks by Owen Herbert and Sam Brown kept Ealing in defence for most of the second half.
The Ravens kept there impressive season on track with a 24-8 victory.
