Youth News & Reports from Sunday 23rd November

Colchester U16 44 – Diss 0
Despite the foul conditions, the U16s were able to create some very attractive running rugby against a very game Diss squad who never gave up.
Colchester scored 8 tries from Jamie Murray (2), Faisal Olobooye (2,) Owain Powell. Owen Cowley, Troy Palmer and Jake Finesilver; Faisal Olobooye added 2 conversions.

Woodbridge U15 5 – Colchester U15 15
Despite the driving rain, Colchester and Woodbridge played an intense and skilful game of rugby. Although the set piece play was fairly even throughout, Colchester controlled the breakdown well, stealing opposition ball whilst retaining their own, and patiently going through the phases to set up scoring opportunities. After flanker Rhys Smith stole the ball at the breakdown, it passed quickly to the wing where Dan Blackman crashed through three defenders to put Colchester ahead after 5 minutes. Shortly afterwards, Jordan Milburn took a well timed pass at pace and cut a diagonal path to brush aside the Woodbridge defence for Colchester's second.
With Ollie Hills kicking intelligently for field position, and the ever present Freddie Thomas carrying strongly, Colchester remained on the front foot throughout the first half, and only desperate defence from the home side prevented further tries. Then just before half time, centre Dan Hughes angled his run perfectly, and cut back through the Woodbridge line to score a superb try. Tom Williams had three close kicks, but conditions were atrocious and the half ended 15-0.
Woodbridge came back strongly in the second half, protecting the ball much better, mounting a series of attacks in Colchester's 22, and eventually being rewarded with a pushover try. There were no further scores and the final result of 15-5 was a fair reflection of the game

Colchester U14 1st 10 – Woodbridge 15
In the early exchanges Colchester matched a Heavier well organised pack with ferocious tackling from Tyler and Boone. In separate drives both Coates and Holroyd was held up on the Woodbridge line.
the Ravens were reduced to fourteen men for 25 minutes while Batley received treatment and the visitors took advantage with two tries.
Despite the filthy conditions Colchester kept their heads up and a perfectly timed pass from Bourne released Eves on the wing to score.
The second half was dominated by Woodbridge but they were held to just one further try by a spirited rear guard. A solo kick and chase try from Eves brought his team to within one score but time on the clock denied any chance of a victory.

Colchester U14 2nd 10 – Diss 32
The U14 2's hosted Diss in what was to be a very difficult game. A combination of last minute team and positional changes, a strong and an organised Diss squad, and the awful playing conditions meant the CRFC were up against it from the start, and it wasn't long before the opposition had run in two unanswered tries. The Colchester game slowly started to come together, but a series of handling errors from both sides made for a fairly scrappy encounter. Although CRFC persevered, it wasn't quite enough to prevent Diss from scoring a further two tries by half time. Colchester came out strong in the second half, and slowly started to get some control of the game and were a little unfortunate to concede another try. This seemed to spur the boys on, and as the conditions got worse, the CRFC game started to get better and the first try eventually came. By now Colchester were on top, and with the final play of the game managed to score a second converted try. Although losing by five tries to two, well done to all the CRFC boys who all played for each other right to the end.
