Colts win Stowmarket festival without conceding a point
The Colts took part in the Stowmarket 15/15 Festival, a thoroughly enjoyable day of rugby. With 12 sides entered in 2 pools of 6, Colchester beat :-
Southwold 14-0
Westcliff B 5-0
Saracens 19-0
Ipswich 10-0
Wymondham 12-0
to claim their place in the semi final – without having conceded a point. They beat Bury 5-0 on the semi final to meet Westcliff, who were similarly unbeaten in the final. A tense final saw Colchester lead 3-0 with an Elliot Cryne penalty, before the Colts usual outstanding defence kept a rampant Westcliff at bay.

U16s lose in final at Brentwood Golden Boot
Colchester A’s attended the prestigious Brentwood Golden Boot Tournament. After disposing comfortably of Bishops Stortford, Westcliff and Thurrock in the pool stages, Colchester took on the Mavericks in a closely contested semi eventually running out 7-0 winners. This meant a final encounter with hosts Brentwood and after a closely contested, niggly affair Colchester succumbed 0-14 to the Essex champions to end the day as runners-up.
Bury 19 - Colchester U15s 31
Colchester U15s wowed the crowd at Bury St Edmunds with another sensational game of high-tempo and high-scoring rugby. Hosts Bury opened the scoring with a well-worked converted try. Colchester replied with five tries of their own in twenty five scintillating minutes. Bury matched the visitors in most areas and outmuscled Colchester in many rucks but couldn't contain a team who were unafraid to run from all areas and with great lines. The biggest positive was the manner with which eight second half substitutes rose to the occasion to withstand the inevitable second half Bury fight-back. Ollie Hills was clinical at fly half, making and scoring tries. Full Back Tom Williams was a giant in defence. Tyler Herbert Scott, Ollie Dickie, Rob Crossley and James Hoddell all scored exceptional tries to cap multi-phase moves involving almost every Colchester player.
Colchester U14 2nd 41 – Newmarket 0
The U14 2's played at home against Newmarket, in what was to result in another good win for this CRFC squad. Although up against a big Newmarket pack, Colchester did a fine job controlling the forward line, winning most of the breakdown ball and then making territory with hard fought rucking and mauling. Combine this with excellent handling and high tempo attack from the back line, and it wasn't long before the tries started to flow. This committed approach continued through to the final whistle, by which time Colchester had scored seven unanswered tries, and therefore pleasing to see that both attack and defence were working well. A very determined display by the U14 2's squad, all played an important part, and totally worthy of their 41-0 win.

Bury 12 – Colchester U13A 24
A much better performance from the A team compared to the week before, still a bit scrappy
Colchester Under 13 B 0 - Newmarket 96
Colchester B’s second 15 a side match was a trip to Newmarket where a well drilled opposition, who only field one side, started strongly and after a few minutes scored through some direct running.
Unfortunately, Colchester were tackling too high so Newmarket’s centres kept punching holes in our defence and the score racked up. Led by a fired up ‘Man of the Match’ Tom Holden Colchester improved as the game went on with an enthusiastic display from Elliot Littlebury in the pack, but apart from the last 5 minutes the scrum and lineouts were lost and so they had little or no possession. The boys kept their spirit up all game and at no point did they let their heads down – collectively though the weak rucking, mauling and tackling ensured Newmarket were always on the front foot – plenty to build on but good experience for all.
