Last seasons under 13's played Sevens at Franklins Gardens on Friday 1st August. Having qualified (with Hadleigh) at a Saints tournament at Mill Road, they take part in an 8 team festival (with sides from Cambs, Beds & Northants) with the final held on Saints 1st team pitch.
This tournament was a warm up to the evening Premiership Sevens event also featuring Quins, Wasps & Saracens.
Former Colchester youth player Lewis Ludlam was named in the Saints squad.
The Under 13s had a fabulous day playing some excellent sevens with great pace, they won their pool decisively beating Long Buckby, Towcester and Saffron Walden scoring a 3 try bonus in each game.
Only to meet old rivals Hadleigh in the semi-final where they reversed all previous losses with a 2 try to 1 win.
A quick dash over to the main pitch at Franklins Gardens saw them meet a much larger and physical Old Scouts in the final.
After scoring the first try they then conceded 2 tries in the second half to unfortunately lose.
But what a great day for these young men, they were so excited.
They then relaxed able to watch the Northampton leg of the Premiership Sevens.
