At the end of the 1987 season, coach Paddy Smith launched an appeal to raise £3,000 for a Power Master scrummage machine.
By the start of 1988 pre-season training, not only was sufficient money raised to purchase the equipment, but a surplus of over £300 was donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Lexden Special School (pictured above).
