U9's receive their award for January's Team of the Month...

President Brian Borges awards U9's Alfie the trophy as the whole team attended their coaching session on Sunday 19th February.

A great Sunday morning coaching session for our U9's who received their trophy for being January's Team of the Month.

"The CRFC Under 9 section is made up of 3 squads (the Rooks, Magpies and Jays), all ably looked after by Andy Sutcliffe who is U9 head coach, senior coach, player for the thirds and a bit of a CRFC legend! An obvious highlight so far this season has been the recognition from the CRFC president with the team of the month award for January. Bad weather and a frozen pitch stopped rugby coaching on 22nd January, but it couldn’t stop the enthusiasm and team spirit for a few die hard Under 9’s. They braved the icy conditions in their rugby kit to take part in the Colchester junior Parkrun followed by an informal coaching session at the Colchester recreation ground. Parkrun regulars Kester, Noah and Joe were joined by Alfie as part of his training for a Help for Hero’s triple A ascent charity climb. It’s this dedication and grit that has seen all the Under 9’s storm through their first season of contact, taking the knocks, learning new skills and really living the 5 core values of our game. Two of those, teamwork and enjoyment, were on display on that cold January morning and that is why the whole team has picked up this well-deserved award.” Ben Adley.

We would like to say another big CONGRATULATIONS to all the team.

Under 21 and returning home from university for Easter?

Many clubs run successful youth sections but lose players once they go to university. Following on from events at Christmas and in conjunction with Southwold Rugby Club, Eastern Counties is promoting and supporting a University Returners / U21 Festival at Southwold RFC. It will take place this Easter Sunday, 16th April 2017, commencing at 11.30 am.

This gives us the opportunity to remain in contact with players who are at university and reap the harvest of earlier years. Colchester has entered a squad but if you are keen to play and have not made yourself known yet then please contact rossrugby@btinternet.com and we might squeeze you in. No promises!

As an added attraction, Southwold RFC have offered to organise a beer festival and BBQ to complement the festival !! – where a better place to spend Easter ?

It's always a great game and great fun and if you're not sure you're on our radar please let Ross know or email us at press@colchesterrugby.co.uk

Throwback Thursday
The A XV have competition in the dress up department..
With the A's donning the spandex and mystic identities on Superhero-Saturday, ranging from such famous superheros as Iron Man, Spiderman, Donald Trump and of course Jesus.

This weeks throwback Thursday we looked back to when the French fancy dress invaded the rugby club.

The French fancy dress picture was actually a club tour to Colchester’s twin town – Avignon. The year was 1986 and pre-dated Brexit friction by not only stereotyping French attire but by taking ‘Ne Forgettez Pas Le Rainbow Warrior’ lifebelts following their blowing up of the Greenpeace vessel of the same name. It was a great tour in many respects apart from the rugby – we didn’t play any as they had fixture congestion.

As with any Throwback please do get in touch if you have any old pictures, videos, newspaper clippings, selfies. All would be greatly appreciated!! We love sharing!
