Mini Rugby Welcome
Mini rugby at Colchester RFC covers age groups from under 6′s through to under 12′s.
Our emphasis is on enjoyable, safe rugby for all. We follow the RFU continuum under which the game is introduced in stages, starting with non contact tag rugby for the U6, U7 and U8 age groups. Contact rugby, with scrums and line-outs (initially uncontested) starts at U9 and at U11 level kicking is introduced. The aim is to develop boys and girls in a safe and controlled manner, and to prepare them for the 15-a-side game at youth level (U13 and upwards).
All age groups have RFU qualified coaches, all of whom are CRB checked as are our first aiders and administrators. All age groups run two or three teams, so competitive matches are possible for all players from the U7 age group upwards.
The season has now started with successful registration and training days. The first fixtures are arranged for 02 October 2011 with the season running through to the end of April with training days interspersed with competitive fixtures against local (and some not so local) clubs. This season’s fixture list has been finalised and will be published shortly. Training at Mill Road playing fields starts at 10.00 and has generally ended by 12.00. New players are welcomed at all age-groups. Please note that a parent or guardian must stay at the ground at all times, either pitch-side or in the warm in the club house where tea and coffee are available during the morning.
Players and spectators are expected to adhere to our code of conduct which emphasises the traditional values of rugby including respect for officials and opposition players.
We look forward to welcoming new and existing players for the 2011/12 season.
